Chinatown Tour - Rice, Rickshaws & Running towards Genie Pants

After an exciting morning at the National Museum, and a cute afternoon tea at Raffles Hotel, it was time for Chinatown!

The tour to Chinatown was one of the most exciting parts of our journey (so far). In the bus, were some lovely people from America. The first part of the journey was a visit to the Chinese Medicine Shop where we discovered many different traditional Chinese herbs and dried plants. We even got some free Chinese mosquito repellent!

Before long, it was time for dinner. Our tour guide led us up the stairs, and we mentally prepared ourselves for the six course meal awaiting us. Although the name of the restaurant was Yum Cha, we were served an interesting and varied dinner consisting of sweet corn soup, fried rice, vegetables, sweet and sour fish, chicken, and a mango pudding dessert. Overall it was very filling and fun to eat. In fact, it was so fun that we got Mrs Field and Mrs White to pull funny faces. However, this image is unfortunately not attached.

We then made our way downstairs to the night markets, where we (sadly) were not able to use our bargaining power to full extent. I guess we were saving our negotiation skills for the United Nations conference... However, we bought many items of clothing that we would not normally see in Australia. Vivid lights and colourful lanterns decorated the streets and we were soon wiping the sweat off our foreheads as we battled the night time humidity, in our search for the perfect pair of genie pants.

Then it was time for the trishaw ride!!! For me, this was the best part of the trip. Initially we were questioning the safety of the ride, but the lack of seatbelts was liberating. Shoutout to Dul, our lovely trishaw driver! I tried to maintain a conversation but unfortunately he was very soft-spoken, and the roaring traffic also drowned his voice out :( so the 30 minute trishaw ride mainly consisted of Maggie and I nodding and smiling as he murmured indistinctly and pointed at the Singapore icons. But the ride was really exhilarating and so fun we didn't want it to end.

Then we arrived at the end of our trishaw ride, at the pier next to Singapore River, where we then embarked on a cruise for 30 mins downstream to Marina Bay.

As we got on the cruise ship, a lady was singing at the bar, belting out hits eg. "All About That Bass" and "Someone Like You" which was nice! She looked very startled when we cheered loudly for her.

Look at how cute we are. Be jealous! Look at that Singaporean glow. (sweat+moisturiser+joy of life)
After some great photos (we even managed to see Marina Bay Light Show from the cruise) and winding down, we got the bus back (lovely, lovely air conditioning).

But the night wasn't over yet.

Cold Stone!
Yes. The amazing, renowned ice-cream place where we can create our own ice-cream with toppings. WOOOOO.

Good night!

This trip is amazing.
