Finally, the moment we were all waiting for had arrived - the first day of the THIMUN conference. We headed into the minibus to the Hwa Chong Institution dressed in our business attire, brimming with ideas, anticipation and curiosity.
The first day was a chance for us to lobby - to meet with other delegates that had researched the same issues and compile and negotiate ideas. These issues ranged from preventing the recruitment of young people from Central Asia by terrorist groups to assessing the impact of aging populations to combating offshore tax evasion. Through lobbying we met a wide range of delegates from all over the world. The delegates were mainly from Asian nations but some came from as far as Switzerland!

All of us managed to contribute clauses or ideas to the final resolutions, which we will debate in the coming days. Prepare to see PLC Sydney girls on the podium making sure that Portugal and Human Rights Watch are fully represented!
In the afternoon we attended the THIMUN opening ceremony, where we heard from many distinguished guests. The key speaker for us all was Peter Dalglish, whose speech aroused emotion in every person in the audience and received a standing ovation.

After a long day of lobbying we retreated our rooms for a quick rest and then met Ms Mossop, a PLC ex-teacher now living in Singapore, who took us to a food market to try some satay chicken. We were ravenous from all our hard work at the conference, to say the least.
And of course, Cold Stone ice cream awaited us all yet again - a refreshing end to a long day of lobbying. A quick debrief from Mrs White and Mrs Field and then it was up to the rooms to recharge for a full day lobbying and debating the next day.
The delegate from Portugal wishes a good night to all readers.
Alison
