National Museum of Singapore

Today we walked to the National Museum of Singapore in the morning. The front photo that we have of the museum is the original Raffles Library and Museum built in 1887. In 1960, the Raffles Library was separated from the museum and in 1969 it was renamed as the National Museum of Singapore and has devoted itself to the art, history and ethnology of Singapore.

There are many different aspects of the museum including visiting and permanent exhibitions. We visited the permanent exhibition of the 700 years of Singapore. There we learnt about the history of the native Singaporeans and Singapore's relationship with other foreign countries. We further explored Singapore's colonial history with the Chinese, Indians and the British.

We viewed the sobering experiences of all Singaporeans during the Japanese occupation in WWII.

We then went on to view Singapore's development and change as it moved on to become an independent nation.

We thoroughly enjoyed the museum and our experience there as we continue to broaden our knowledge of Singapore and it's culture.
